A fictional moment inspired by the featured gallery

Coffee in the Industrial Kitchen

The kitchen hummed with low lights and distant machinery; stainless steel counters gleamed under soft yellow lamps, pipes running along exposed walls like quiet veins. Brandon wiped his hands on a rag and glanced toward the door where Jason stood, still holding his bag as if it might vanish if he let go. He wanted to say something simple that would hold him there: I’ve got coffee, and it’s not going anywhere.

Jason hesitated; his mind kept looping through reasons to leave—Brandon must be exhausted after his shift, and maybe he was already too much presence in someone else’s evening. But Brandon’s quiet smile cut through the noise, an invitation so small and steady that Jason felt it land like a hand on his shoulder.

Then Jason smiled back, dropped his bag by the door, and said, Then I’d better come in before you change your mind. The warmth between them was shy but real; he felt seen enough to stay without rushing. They sat side by side with mugs in their hands, shoulders brushing as they talked about nothing important—until it was.
