The Spark of Inspiration
As many of you know, I have a deep love for the beach, but unfortunately, I don’t get to visit as often as I’d like. That desire to be near the ocean is something that never fades. A few months ago, I had the opportunity to visit Ishigaki Island in Okinawa, Japan. For those who aren’t familiar, Ishigaki is one of the southernmost islands of Japan, closer to Taiwan than to Tokyo, and it’s a hidden gem of breathtaking beauty.
The island offered a vibe that felt like a tropical paradise, but with a distinct Japanese twist. Even though I visited during winter, with overcast skies, the beauty of the place was undeniable. Surrounded by clear blue waters that rival those in the Caribbean, I found myself captivated by the scenery.
My First Snorkeling Experience
One of the highlights of my trip was snorkeling—a first for me. Let me tell you, it wasn’t easy at the start. Learning to breathe solely through your mouth while your nose is blocked takes some getting used to. I remember the initial panic, thinking I might not be able to do it, but then I recalled my swimming training. I calmed myself down, found my rhythm, and soon enough, I was exploring the underwater world with ease.
The experience was nothing short of magical. The day cleared up just enough for me to marvel at the underwater life—colorful fish and corals surrounding me as I swam through the water. It was like entering another world, and although the fish weren’t exactly the same as the vibrant ones you see in videos, it was still an unforgettable experience.
